Out West Road Trip [day one and two]

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since our out west epic. I would say it was a once in a lifetime adventure, but considering it’s the third time we’ve done the trip, and hope to do it again sooner than later that would be inaccurate. But, the sentiment is the same. I hope to share some highlights, mainly through photographs, and occasionally through words. Our first major point of interest was a stop at The Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile in Pawhuska, OK. The cappuccino was, without exaggeration, the best I have ever had. The Merc is fantastically styled and a real treat. We spent over an hour looking at all of her fun merchandise. The town is quaint and tiny and juxtaposes nicely with the 433,000 acre Drummond Ranch (roughly the size of Connecticut).  After breakfast, we exited out the rear of the town to the nearby Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The 39,650 acre preserve is the largest remnant of tall grass prairie on the planet.  This is the native landscape that used to span 14 states, from Texas to Minnesota.  Only 4% remains.  A highlight was spotting several of the 2,500 free-range bison that roam the prairie.

Meet Win (Birmingham, AL Family Photographer)

My favorite things about this storytelling film are: the wonder of the big sisters; the perfectly formed little toes, lips, hands; the way Dad holds his first son; Mama’s loving and gentle presence with her littles.

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” -Roald Dahl

Storytelling Session: Gilmore Family {Birmingham Children’s Photographer}

Say hello to the Gilmore family. I spent the morning with them in their home as spring emerged from a winter that had lingered too long. Warmth and joy permeated their space as they moved seamlessly from schoolwork to play and back again.  There is beauty in real, true life.
